Andha Naalu Per!!!

This article is completely dedicated to those four people who have taken almost all the steps in shaping my life. They have been like pillars in all imaginable ways. They have seen me taking my first steps into this world, growing up and climbing my teenage days and then end up in a profession. They will also be there watching like hawks getting me married. No Doubt!

By this time, I know you all would have guessed who I have been talking about in the above few lines. If you had guessed the answer as "My Parents", then you are completely wrong! These four people are totally invisible in society but they still ensure that they influence and mould your life in all possible ways.

Let me start off from the day I was born.

I was born in those days, whereby still the birth of the girl child was considered a burden! My mom had told me that my nanamma (father's mom) did not celebrate  my birth as she did for my brother. Now immediately don't think that my nanamma as the villain. She was one hell of a sweet lady who inculcated her artistic skills  into me. She was greatly influenced by those four people and their holistic concepts. She was obviously trying to be diplomatic and merge with society. If at all she would have voiced her opinion, she would have been ignored by the society because in those days women voicing their opinion was also considered illegal by the same four people.

As I grew up, these dhanda buggers (waste buggers) were busy influencing my parents, torturing them to save money for marriage more than education. Thank GOD!  My parents were such strong headed people, that they considered that education will be my best gift. The moment I completed my under graduation, they had started pestering my parents about marriage talks. Ennadhan da unga Prechanai??? These four idiots will have hell lot of problems in their family but they solely  focused only in other affairs. The degree of determination that they have is mind blowing!

I am 27 years old now, so you can image the amount of torture that I would have undergone. This also shows how strong my parents have been :)

We have been living in this home for more than 30 years which means we are known to a lot of people. One fine day, an old lady residing 10 homes away from our home walks up to my mom and asks why I was not yet married (Rhomba mukiyum). She even convinced my mom to go and visit an astrologer the next day. The output was wastage of Rs 300. Seriously I could have had one mutton biryani and barbecued chicken in this money :(. God heard me cursing this old lady and he was so kind enough to start off a property fight between her daughter and her son to the extent that police had to get involved ( You can imagine how happy I was - all 34 teeth eeeeeeeee I say)!!!

I was so bugged with my first job and I received an opportunity to work in Coimbatore for a year. It was the most toughest part of my life. But what made it more  tough were these four nameless fellows. They had the guts to tell  my parents that they had sent their daughter for work so that they can use the money and enjoy their life. How insane?? When I returned back, I could see that my parents were mentally drained handling these psych heads alone!

As I am still single, the four people have imagined the following things.

1. I am in love ( most common syndrome that they associate with all bachelors and spinsters especially above 25 years)
2. I have a mental problem (I suffer from adangapidari or the headweight syndrome)
3. My parents have no money to get me married (Seriously hilarious)
4. Something is seriously wrong with my astrology (God himself has told them)

These guys are so jobless and vetti and it is very easy for anyone to identify them. From my experience here are some points of how these people can be recognised.

They generally move in groups (can be 4 or more than 4). On a a lazy evening you can find them chatting in the veranda or on the road in groups of 4. They can also be your relatives. If you cross them the common lines you might overhear is "avangaveetla" (in their house), "Andha paiyan or andha Ponnu" (that girl or that boy),  Ava mamiyar (her mother in law) and so on...

You can also see them in marriages whereby they will be raising the BP of the girls mother, asking her how much gold are you giving to the Bridegroom, how much has the bridegrooms family promised to give in return, Mapillai US ah, will your daughter leave to US after marriage, avanga mamiyar epdi... and the list continues adding more fuel to the already burning fire in the mothers head...After asking all these shameless questions, they even sit in the marriage dining hall to eat the oosi sapadu. As a matter of fact, these people only have the name of  "Well Wishers" but they for sure won't like to see the growth of other people.

Our society has raised us in such a way - that we live only for these four people. Sadly none of us have made an attempt to live a life for ourselves! I felt it was high time that someone writes to those four people. My dear readers all you need to do is share this post with as many people as you can!

Dear nallu per,

Yaarda neenga?? Please let us know what your problem is? It would be great if you stop imagining! You people suffer from schizophrenia, so please consult a psychologist today. It will help you on the long run! You people are basically jealous that such wonderful things have not happened in your life, therefore, you are trying to spoil the fun for  others too! Kindly grow up!

For all those who have been influenced by these four people,

I know how difficult it is to come out of this influence. As mentioned earlier, these four
people might be your relatives. So you cannot even speak back at them. But, it is high time, we take a step forward. The only people who care about you truly will be your parents, your husband or wife and some of your close friends. Apart from this list you do not have to put with anyone else. Your family loves you truly and they will by all means support you and understand you. So please do not take decisions based on these four people anymore.

The time has come to change.... Live life...Don't exist!!

Regards,
Brinda Megasyamalan

Those Eyes.....

I can't peer through those eyes
The radiance is blinding
Filled with sheer love and promise
Changing the dynamics of my life
I can’t even find a tinge of doubt
The message is so clear
I just have one stupid question-WHY??
It convinces me with another glance
Some miracles do happen!!!
As I smile back
It brightens up
I was never sure
Just what chemicals kindle a stars faithful burn
But I am sure what will bring life to those eyes!!
In spite of 1000 questions
wracking my nerve cells
I would still spend every night
Dreaming up poems about your eyes
Coz it has all my answers!!

The last drop of tear....

Swimming through tangles of emotions
I can never be happy
Nor make others happy!!
I am just a burden
In this world of emotions
Where I try to satisfy my peers
As a mark of respect, And lose mine
'Coz life is all about sacrifice
Here i go...killing another soul
Right in front of my eyes
As I am not able to answer those bewildering questions
I can see its bleeding heart
Pleading for me
As i enter the crossroads
I enter the flames of sacrifice
Burning my emotions to ash
As I turn to bid a final farewell
To the pleading soul
I apologise
It accepts my words
'Coz it needs my happiness to survive
On the way of my happy journey
I still continue my intangible lies
changing 1000 masks every second
For the satisfaction of the world
A world which has taken an oath to slay me to death
I silently hate myself each second
Till guilt intoxicates my nerves
I still smile holding my head high
All through this pain
Evolving into a an emoticon of trust
I hate this clueless life
Filled with money, luxury and caste
But no space for your happiness!!!
Finally my last beat arrives
Where I look back and convince myself
I was happy
Just to see the smile of the people
I loved all through my life
As the world around me smiled
I saw two souls still pleading to be together
Trying to break away from bonds
And hold their hands!!!
Leaving the physical form
Finally it is lonely
Lonely enough to shed tears
For the pleading soul
Which it abandoned once upon a time!!!

Light a life!!!

I woke up to another sluggish Monday morning!!! I don’t know what’s with Mondays and me, maybe I watch too much of Garfield cartoons, that I have started hating Mondays like him. I moved like a snail out of the bed and got ready to go to office to get my brains chewed!!!

The climate was good and I liked the wind hitting my face. I stopped in the petrol bunk to fill fuel for my bike. As my petrol tank was getting filled, my gaze fell on a little boy who was trying to impress a guy inside the car by cleaning the car mirror. He was wiping the glass frantically fixing his gaze on another car behind. Once his task was complete his eyes looked at the fellow inside with so much expectation. The guy dropped some coins to that little fellow. I caught a glint of happiness in his eyes. Then a huge smile spread across his face and he bounded to the next car and started his work again. As I started from that place I was wondering what is happiness exactly. To that little lad it was just the matter of earning those two rupees which kick started his day on a positive note.

I was moving along, negotiating the traffic, and observing the faces possessing long lost expressions. I was wondering what could exactly bring such an expression on their face. I saw a guy talking cheerfully on his cell phone. I could sense from his expressions that it was his girl on the line. The discussion was nothing extraordinary. He was just updating her about what he had done all morning, but then I could see a sparkling smile on his face. He was happy talking to her on that busy road. While there were people around me cursing the traffic congestion, this fellow was jubilant and thanking god for those few minutes of delay that enabled him to catch up with his girl.

On the other side of the road, a mother was pulling her two children to reach the school gate. She was in such a hurry to drop them and carry on with her work. As she left them near the gate the young girl pulled her mom down and planted a huge kiss on her cheek and scooted away quickly. The mother stood there smiling and waving her hands to her kids. For a moment I could see that she was not worried about anything in this world. I could realize that she would have felt the same while giving birth to her little ones and holding them in her shivering hands for the first time. A woman has two smiles that any angel might envy, the smile that accepts her lover before words were uttered, and the smile that lights on her baby, and assures it of eternal love.

Happiness takes various definitions with different people. For many it is just a momentary feeling. Once I remember a woman telling me that she had tears in her eyes when her husband gifted her with a wrist watch on her birthday. Well at first I dint understand why she had to cry because it was so natural for a husband to give a gift. She went on to explain that her partner has never gifted her with anything. Her husband did not know what love meant exactly. He was so involved in his business and he just treated her like a slave. But after so many years he had realized the worth of having a woman beside him and found a way to express his love. As she rightly said it was a moment to cherish for a lifetime. She told me that she wouldn’t mind even if he reverts back to his usual self as this was enough for her!!!

After the tiring day at work, I decided to hit the beach. I saw a group of young boys playing cricket on the road. The sun was scorching and there was the constant threat of policemen chasing them away, it just didn’t matter to them. The guy who was batting looked bony and puny and he was not even wearing a shirt. Well I could almost count his ribs. With so much of poverty behind I saw him enjoying every moment of play!! When the ball went for a six he was screaming his lungs out and laughing!! I wondered whether Sachin would give such a reaction!!! The little boy was swaying his broken bat in the air and was enjoying the momentary recognition from his team mates.

When I asked what happiness means to a couple of my friends, they all came up with one answer. It was the moment their guys proposed them!! I saw their eyes rolling to recollect that moment again. I could feel their excitement as they narrated the incident.
Well my question was different!!! These were all happiness that lasted for a moment. There are always events and incidents that lighten up our life at some point like a trekker reaching the peak of a mountain!! But is there anything that a person could do to attain happiness for a lifetime???

I am generally a greedy person who is never contented with momentary happiness. As I was walking on the beach, I was just wondering where to find so much of happiness. I picked up an ice cream and walked on, soon to be followed by a brown mongrel. I could see nothing but hunger in his eyes. The dog was in such a bad condition, and if it was a human being he would be admitted in hospital with two to 3 glucose bottles hanging from all sides. Even with such low dose of energy the dog was wagging its tail to a stranger. I had no choice but to donate that ice cream to the poor canine. I was astonished by the speed at which he gulped it down, then after a quick thank you to me he just left the place!! His behavior actually made me laugh. It was kinda cute and funny. As I walked further I dint feel bad for giving up my ice cream. I felt so good about it.

How many times have we waste our daily food??? When we are so angry on something we show that on the food we eat. For a moment please do think about those poor African kids who are in need of food!!! One look at their pictures and the next moment we will all be thanking god for giving us such blessed lives!!

There are so many beings on this earth that needs a helping hand. For example the boy who was wiping the glass of the car just to get his daily meal. What if we could sponsor his education? Of course money is the need of the moment. But if we could spend a minute to think a little about that poor boy’s future, his life will be transformed and his future would be blessed.
As I walked further I heard a grandpa explaining to his grandson.
If you want happiness for an hour- take a nap.
If you want happiness for a day- go fishing.
If you want happiness for a year- Inherit a fortune.
If you want happiness for a lifetime- Help someone else."
Well, that someone could be anyone. I had found the answers to last my lifetime!!!

Footprints of life..........

It was 2.00pm in the afternoon and the second week of my live production and I had already completed my target – 8 articles a day. I just opened another article just for the sake of it and was staring at it. My brain took a quick plunge into those days ………those pleasant days ….

I was smiling to myself as I was travelling back time to those childhood days where immaturity was at peak!!! I was this little girl who would just cry at the thought of losing my dear doggie to nature one day. But ultimately she died and I survived!!
I wouldn’t say that life has been a bed of roses for me!!! Well it never is for anyone for that matter!! My first challenge in my student days was to pass in my math paper in tenth board exams. GAWD it was a huge challenge for me and somehow I did it. I still think that it was a matter of sheer luck!!! And then the dream of achieving things overtook me!! I used to admire all those girls and guys who used to win so many awards and medals. They were achieving something which I was not!! If they could do it why can’t I???? I wanted to prove my existence and ultimately I did it. College life was nothing different. Every day was challenging and I had enjoyed every bit of it. My creativity was put to good use in those days. I had something to dream about and something to achieve. Every day was thought provoking. It was a rat race which was exhausting but still I had the zeal to face the next day.

But now everything had changed!! I landed in a job as soon as my college got over. First a BPO and then the health care industry in my own field. Again I did not suffer much like so many people to land in a job!!! God had been so good to me in that aspect. Now sitting in the 10th floor of the magnanimous office with only the hum of the air conditioner I am again wondering about life!! We work so hard in our college life so that we can settle in a good job and earn well and settle in life!!! I was happy that I settled in this job with a good pay. Well but now I am wondering whether I just wanted only this???

The silence in the office was as usual creeping upon me. In a few days I will forget how to smile and how to speak. Because it was all about your work, your targets to get your money!! Like zombies my team mates were just typing away the hoards of information that we were supposed to upload onto the database….. None of them bothered about the other!! I was just watching all the heads nodding in front of the computer screens with their own doubts!!! Their minds were like iron gates, no one can even get a glimpse of what is actually going on inside that. May be there were so many other people on that floor thinking what I was thinking at that time.
For all I know we are just being so self centered, bothered only about our life and dreams!! There are so many people and who don’t even know what happiness is!! Shouldn’t we make an attempt to change things around us to bring a smile on at least few people a day and put an end to the monotony in life??? ??? Don’t we have to achieve something that at least a small circle of people remember our name even after our death?? Don’t we have to leave our footprints behind in this universe for people to remember who we are???

These were the questions which were rolling into each brain cell of mine without an answer. My dream started at that moment again. I know it’s not going to end there. I will for sure make a difference. It’s not too far…. but it requires patience and I have it….

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

Echoes Of a Soul...............!!!!!

Screeching soul........ gushing blood.....
Can you feel those eyes staring at you?????
I can see them pleading in anguish.........
Waiting to unleash and lay its tainted hands
on the writhing flames..........
To be engulfed into the scorching flames.....!!!!!

These are not mere lines of exaggerating words !!! These lines hold the memories of a lost soul!!!
Man being the most advanced species on this earth has no knowledge on what is going to happen the next second!! If he is able to discover that, then each and every human being on this earth will tag himself as GOD!!!
This fact differentiates between man and God!!
What happened........ What happens...What is going to happen....... The answer for all these lies in his fingertips!!! We the humans got to wait and play the game of life....!!!
I am not writing this to mourn for the lost soul.... I am here to wake up all those self centered brains in this world!!! When we are not sure of survival the next second, there is no point in sitting and thinking about ourselves!!! The world needs us!! So move on....... lend a helping hand to those in need and make your living worth on this soil!!!
Be a flower that blooms to full glory and dies, than being a tree that never blossoms...
Be a spark that burns with a brillaint blaze for a moment than being a light which cannot show path to anyone.....
Be a meteor which carries a magnificient glow rather than being a sleepy and permanent planet..........
Dont waste days in trying to prolong them....
Use your time........
Finally........
YOU WERE BORN TO LIVE............ NOT TO EXIST!!!!

.............POINT BLANK!!!!!!

As the haggard sun was setting at a distance, soft and mellow music were flowing into the ears of Nikita. She was standing in her terrace looking at the buzzing city. Everything was calm at that height. The only sound came from the birds that were hovering in the sky apart from her music player. It was the month of December… a season of joy and happiness … a season of sharing and singing!!!

She checked the calendar in her mobile. Twenty four days more for the New Year and then the dawn of the year 2009!! A vague smile crossed her face!!! A memory…… still crystal clear …. An incident which changed her perspective towards human relations!!! It was the evening of December 31st 2007,
An evening of fun, laughter, dancing, music and many more………………………

It was a perfect evening for Nikita and her family. The New Year mood was in the air and the festive mood could be smelt in the ambience!! Nikita’s brother had reserved a table in the resort for the New Year blast!! Nikita was standing in front of the mirror looking at her evening party wear. She was wearing a denim skirt with white frills and a white t-shirt. Nobody would believe if she told that she was in her third year of under graduation. She was looking like a kid. She smiled to herself and went out of her room to check on her mom. Her ever beauteous mom looked esthetic in a blue sari. Her dad was in jeans and her bro Arjun was as usual flaunting his party wear clothes.

It was seven in the evening and the family got settled in the car and drove towards the highway with music blasting over the system!!!!On route to the resort Nikita peeped outside the window to see people hurrying out of shops with huge bags finishing their last minute shopping’s , cartoon characters holding balloon’s entertaining the kids on the road, the colorful lights and also people who were waiting outside the temple who were eager to get the blessings. Everything was perfect… nothing could go wrong ... she was beaming with joy…:):)!!

They reached the resort at eight thirty and they settled in their table. Arjun’s friend Neelesh had come. Nikita waved to Neelesh and teased him “what bro enjoying the New Year without your wife huh???” he smiled back and gave her a hi-fi and settled in his chair beside her. For Neelesh this New Year would be his best because he was going to be blessed with a baby soon. So his wife was out of city secure in her mom’s home. And so he was partying for the new comer too. The party had started long back with the DJ thumping the music from the stage. A MC was conducting contests for the crowd on the dance floor. The dance floor was quite large with three stages and it was lit up with all kind of shimmering lights and looked inviting!!!

But Nikita was a kind of girl who would sit and watch the action from a distance and she preferred her silent way of enjoyment. She was now settled on a wall with a Pepsi can in the hand and was having her favourite marry brown chicken fries and was enjoying the music. Her dad was with Arjun and Neelesh enjoying a drink. Her mom was settled with her aunt who had also come for the party. She was sitting alone on the wall and was trying to get a line to her best friend but the network was busy!!! The party was gearing up and there was a dance show by some group. The atmosphere was cheerful and anxiously waiting for the clock to strike twelve. Half an hour more for New Year!!!!

Eleven forty five Arjun hurried up to her laughing. “Hey gal Nita aunty is in nearby resort. Mom and myself are going there to pick her up. Dad wants to stay back… so you got to stay here!! Any probs???” Nikita was happy as far they leave her alone in her own world of enjoyment!! She accepted to stay. When he left, she went in search of her dad!! He was sitting and having another drink and was chatting with Neelesh and an elderly person. She went near and got introduced to Verma uncle. She waved hi and got introduced to his family. He had two physically challenged kids. They were sitting in a wheel chair and were waving their hands with the beat of the music!!! She went to them and they invited her lovingly and there she earned two more friends!! She was standing with them and was looking towards the stage. The kids urged her to take them near the stage. She gave a glance towards uncle and he ushered her to go forward. Neelesh joined her to give a hand and they both pushed the wheel chair towards the front of the stage. Soon her dad and Verma uncle joined them on the stage in the front. The whole crowd was waiting to utter the count down. The stage was too crowded in the front…… the temperature was a bit high but the crowd never bothered!!! Then the count down started and the lights were off!! The two kids were clutching her hands so tight and were having a fun time!!!

A brilliant aura of light lighted the sky as the clock struck twelve and let’s get loud song by Jennifer Lopez was blasted on the system!!! What a moment!! She hugged the kids and wished them New Year and then gave a hi-five to Neelesh who was dancing with joy and was shouting over the phone to his wife!! Her dad and Verma uncle were in their own world of dance!!! Her mom and bro were probably enjoying with Nita aunty!! The sky was sparkling with brilliant fire works and the crowd was waving for more!!!

Twelve ten Nikita felt it was enough and brought the kids to the garden and settled down and started calling up her friends. Her dad had also settled in a chair nearby and was happily chatting with Verma uncle as though they knew each other for years. The kids were hungry so uncle told he will join them shortly and left to the food counter.

She was sitting on the table, and after a few minutes she felt a cold hand touching hers. She turned to see her dad. He was not normal. She saw him completely wet with sweat. She slowly got down from the table and touched her dad’s chest. It was beating too fast. Within few seconds he was totally numb; his eyes went up and stayed there above his eyelids!! She was shaking him vigorously and slapping him!! He was falling on her!! She did not understand what was happening. Was this the end of her dad’s life?? From nowhere Neelesh appeared to her rescue. They both were frantically calling her dad to wake up. No result!!! The manager of the party saw the drastic situation and somehow got some lady doctor from the crowd. She came forward and pressed her dad’s chest. Then she asked Neelesh to hold her dad and give a thump on his back. After two thumps her dad came alive and started throwing up!!!

The doctor checked his pulse and told Nikita to take him immediately to the hospital. Nikita tried calling her brother’s mobile. His network was busy. Neelesh told her to wait near the entrance and brought his car. Then slowly she settled her dad in the back seat. Suddenly Neelesh’s mobile started ringing and he checked to see who it was. It was Arjun calling him. He picked up to tell him the news but rather his face turned ghostly white!!!

What was wrong??? Neelesh told her that Arjun and her mom never reached the resort and their car was hit on the road and her mom was unconscious!!!!!Her legs felt weak. She was feeling drowsy!!! She had to hold on!!! Neelesh told her to take her dad to the hospital while he told he’ll soon join her with his brother and mom!! She could not believe her ears. It meant that she had to drive!!! She drove only for fun. She was not able to tell exactly whether she would be able to reach safely!!! Neelesh gave her a hug and told that she can do it and told her he will join her soon!!!

She understood the urgency… she saw her dad breaking a sweat and his pleading eyes!!She felt like crying but she held back her tears and started the car and felt a new wave of confidence. She put the car into gear and sped slowly to the road. She heard her dad cough. Every time he coughed it increased her nervousness. All that was running in her mind was “whether he will survive before she reaches”…..
She increased her speed and reached the city within twenty minutes. She had to reach the hospital now. She drove like a maniac turning into every possible street and finally she reached the hospital. She thanked god for showing her the way. When she checked on her dad, he was totally cold and numb.

She ran into the hospital, banged the reception table and shouted for help!! The night doctor appeared shocked by the way she was acting. She calmed her down and asked her to explain the situation. She was furious … “my dad is sick, he is in the car ……. Help, help, help and she broke down!!” Two attendee’s ran towards the entrance and saw her dad’s state and pushed him out!! They made him lie in a stretcher and wheeled him inside. The doctor asked her to wait outside and took him into the I.C.U. Then the doctor came out and told her that he was going to take an angiogram. She nodded her head!! Everything was so distant now!! She was trying to reach Neelesh and his number was busy. She cursed the network and sat down on the chair!! Then Neelesh called her back and told that her mom was under treatment and she was going to be fine and Arjun had sprained his ankle. None of them knew what was happening and after treatment he was going to drop them off at home. She was frantic to call him for help but then decided not to, after thinking about her mom’s condition.

She tried her close friend’s number. But to her dismay none of them wanted to help her at that moment. She tried her relatives, her cousins and almost half of the numbers that were in her mobile!! But to her dismay none of them responded properly. All that they could tell her was “come on nik, we are busy with our friends and it’s too late so we can’t come now. Your dad will be all right.” She was calm at least till the last second, but now she lost her control and she was crying uncontrollably!!! She slopped down in a chair and was sobbing, praying to god that this nightmare would end soon!!!!!

The doctor came out and told her that her dad was a having a mild attack. She told him that he was a heart patient and he had an attack some 7 years back!! The doctor replied that her dad would be all right as this was caused by excitement.
He asked her to wait and left inside!! One and a half hour had passed. She was sitting tightly in a chair. Her knuckles were white as she was holding it around her legs so tight!! Her mind was point blank!!!!
Neelesh arrived and he woke her up. He told that mom and bro were safe and told her that Arjun knew what was happening but was staying with mom. She told him what the doctor told. Neelesh sat beside her and the wait was on!!!
It was morning six o clock when the doctor woke her from her world. He told her that her dad was all right and he could go home!!
For the first time since the hell broke out she felt relieved. They went inside and helped him get into the car. And drove home. Her dad was feeling tired and so he immediately slept off!! Arjun gave a big hug to Nikita and she whispered back “happy new year bro!!”

They smiled and thanked Neelesh for everything. Nikitha went inside her room and sat down in her chair while Arjun and Neelesh settled in the bed!!
Thoughts were running wild……….. She was cursing her friends and relatives!! Not even one soul was ready to offer help when she was in need!! How selfish??? Was she way too helpful or just that they are selfish and exploited her????
She slept!!!!

One year had passed…… after that incident she never believed anybody so easily. She felt that the world was selfish!!! She did not believe in human relations… what were relations for when they don’t help in need??? She just moved along with the world without fighting back as it was pointless to fight with selfish people!!

Nikita …………… she heard her mom’s voice from below and was shaken from her thoughts. She saw the receding line of sunset and said a silent prayer to god “let this New Year be a good one!!!” and went down!!!

A TRIBUTE TO THE FIRST EXAM!!!

........Treatment with urea or guanidine hydrochloride disrupts the non-covalent bonds........

Sasha..... You haven’t had your breakfast yet lady....!!! I heard my mom's voice from the kitchen. It was 8 o clock in the morning and my first university exam after joining msc.biotech course (it was gonna begin in two hours)...and I was still preparing!!! Sasha!!! Do you hear me???? Enough of studying…. Now close your books and get ready... again that was my mom and I yelled back as usual ...five minutes mom….Coming!!!

Two minutes later I closed my book still not satisfied with my preparation and slowly started getting ready. I was cursing myself for wasting time during holidays watching movies and hanging out!!!But frankly speaking when the hell have we utilized our holidays for studying??? We get satisfied only with last minute preparations!!! So rule that point out!!

There I go… I was running around my room picking up my hall ticket and then praying to god simultaneously gulping my breakfast and scanning the pages(he he he I am a multitasker :P)!!

The tension was at its peak. For some strange reason I knew my exam was going to be bad that day!! I felt as though I had just entered the first day of college and with a wink of an eye … the exams were sniggering at me!! Not fair…human beings spend 60% of their life writing exams … when will they get to enjoy life??? At least give me one good reason what are we going to do by knowing how many different structures the protein can form or why are we studying about the plant physiology when our physiology sucks big time with enough diseases and tensions???? All I could think about was that my ATP(adenosine tri phosphate-the energy provider in humans) was being used more than it was required for the moment because of the tension!!! Then I said aloud for the fiftieth time in that morning … come on Sash you can crack it!!! How many exams you have written… and I remembered Vadivelu’s dialogue… “evlovo pannitom idhu pannamatumma..risku na rusk sapudre madhiri!!!lol!!

As usual smiling I picked up my bag and headed to college. I was sitting in the millennium hall (so called …‘coz it doesn’t look as great as the name sounds….so cut your imagination here!!) and was making last minute discussions. Feeling a little confident hoping that everything would go well we started off to the exam hall…. Wishing all luck to my friends, I entered the hall and settled in my seat. Finally the long awaited moment had come!! I was sitting with all kind of dreams… I was hoping to score first mark in at least one paper and moreover biochemistry was my favourite subject (forget the curses which I was giving initially ;): P) …why not?? There are a lot of chances… and so I continued dreaming…until the question paper came and sat in my desk showing all its 32 teeth!!!!!!!!

A glance and a quick scan…….. My face became a deflated balloon… and turned into a red cheery!!! Gawd!!! What the hell was this question paper all about??? Am I writing a chemistry exam or a biochem exam??? It was like some 12th std chemistry paper!! Quick!! All my classmates needed ambulance… I could see tears welling up in every girl’s eye….. the boys were busy nodding a big NO NO to the question paper as though it had some life… their breathing was almost reduced to rasps!!!

It took almost some ten minutes for me to come to my senses!! Now the classroom looked like a prison to me… three hours with a vague question paper… all my dreams were shattered in seconds… broken into pieces that ran into a black hole!!! I took few deep breaths and gave a second read this time a bit more slowly… I decided to start of with one question which I knew perfectly and then put the sandwich method to use and started cracking the questions one by one by combining all my knowledge, straining every brain cell to wring its contents out!!

After three hours of battle I completed the paper and submitted!!! I came out of the exam hall … I thought my friends are gonna break down or something… but when I saw my friend Padma…………… I burst out laughing!! I was laughing hysterically… and she too joined the loll!! All that I was able to tell was “enna kodumma sir idhu!!” Soon rest of my gang joined and we were looking like a bunch of lunatics out of some asylum!!

The exam was over so why worry about it and have tension?? Chillax!! Have fun!!! If not this November next april: P!! enna seri dhaanne?????:P:P

[silent prayer: plzzz God let me pass in this paper…one last time ..plzzzz plzzzz!!!!]

If I had kissed the truck…????

It was yet another day; my eyes were scanning the words on the most irritating equipment in the world. Yeah… without a doubt I was in front of the computer in my office. It was a hectic day with loads and loads of work on my table. Phew ….Never ending works and I cannot call it a day if I were to complete that day’s work. But to my surprise everything went well from morning till evening!! No calls from boss, no calls from colleagues and no calls from outsiders too!!! Must be one of the luckiest days in my life!! I was happy doing my work without any pressure. I was awaiting the clock to tick 5.30 that evening because it was time for the German Language class and it is my favorite and relieves me off all the day’s tension and prepares me for the next day’s asphyxiation at the office.

Two hours at the class runs like minutes. At the stroke of 8.15 PM, I always look at my watch sadly, as the next series of thoughts about work, traffic at roads and so on, invade my mind and curtain it completely from giving an affectionate look at the world around me!!! After a few minutes of hearty chat with my friends at a small shop nearby, I started home in my bike. I love my bike. It is very much dear to me!! As the charismatic black sky weaves a protective blanket on me I give a loving look towards the little diamonds studded on the sky….. But before my thoughts could go anywhere else I heard a loud horn which restored my thoughts on Chennai’s traffic!!! God I hate Chennai’s traffic!!!! Life is only about a mix of what we love and what we hate. I love my class and I hate my job. To my surprise again, I found very less traffic on the roads!!

I was delighted with every shift of the gear in my bike. Seeing every now and then at the speedometer, I sped all the way at 60 kmph. 60 kmph is normal, but in city roads it does matter. GST road is one where I like to ride with the throttle completely open. I remember I was at 70 at my favorite stretch of the road. Extreme joy forced me to overtake a van. I never noticed that there was a truck behind which was trying to overtake me!! In a couple of seconds, I was in between the van and the truck. All of a sudden, the van shifted track towards me and made things worse. The gap narrowed and my intuition said to apply the damn brakes if I were to escape death. One’s intuition is to be taken serious. All that I had was just a second to apply the brakes and I did it. My love gave me another surprise. It skidded off the road and dragged me towards the truck with a screeching sound and I was about to kiss the truck. I was not sure of what I did, but the next second, both the van and the truck went past me and I stood in the middle of the road with my eyes fixed on them. I gave a huge sigh of relief and I relaxed a bit and I rode the bike to a corner of the road. More than a relief, I was laughing!!!! I could not control my laughter for a couple of minutes. Then started home and stayed at 40 kmph.

Now, all my thoughts about the job, German class and whatever it might be, vanished from my brain. Only one stayed till I reached home – “What would have happened if I had really kissed the truck????” No wonder it was really a lucky day in my life!!!!!

The Oblivion!!!- Part Three

“Yes Ms. Bruna Isaac, I will!!”
The marriage was not filled with grace and grandeur, but rather with lots of love and affection. Park had arranged our marriage in Judson Memorial church. It was a small and a simple ceremony with Parkinson and Steffi as witness. We exchanged our rings and Terry kissed me. Tears were rolling down my cheeks. Terry embraced me and whispered “Everything will be all right dear……”

“I love you Terry”

After our marriage we left to meet an attorney in order to transfer my shares to Terry’s name. Steffi had made all arrangements before hand and the legal procedures went on smoothly. That night all of us dined merrily at Steffi’s home. We discussed our plans and then toasted for the president of Glasson Company
“Three cheers to Terry Isaac, the president of Glasson Company!!!”

I was spending a sleepless night. I was praying to god that everything should go well. I had vivid dreams which I did not remember when I woke up. It was 8am when I woke up. Park had made all the arrangements for Terry to reach the company safely. After a quick breakfast Terry started. The final battle started………!!

When Terry reached the Company he saw Steffi waiting for him at the parking lot. Parkinson was accompanying Terry with two more officers. They took the private elevator and reached the conference room. Gregory Thomas was beaming with joy until he saw Terry Isaac!!!

Park was quick to turn the attention of the media towards Terry. With an aura of confidence Terry faced the camera and spoke,

“Members of Glasson Company, I would first like to apologize for all the confusions. All our lives go through highs and lows. The Miller family was caught in one such a bad phase, but one thing is true- tough times do not last but tough people do!! My deepest condolences for Mrs. and Mr. Miller. For everybody’s information Mrs. Bruna Isaac is doing well.”

There was a murmur among the audience. He continued….

“Yes Bruna and I got married yesterday evening and she has transferred her shares officially in my name. As per the norms of the Company the person holding the highest percent of shares will become the president. So by all means I am ready to take over the post of the president of Glasson Company. Once I take over the post I would gladly answer your questions”

He looked at Gregory’s face. He was fuming. Terry submitted all the legal details to the lawyers and also gave a copy to Gregory. At 10.55am the lawyers confirmed that the details were perfect without any flaws and perfectly at eleven Terry Isaac took the oath as the new president of Glasson Company!! The game was not yet over!!
The reporters were all eager to shoot questions. Terry was ready for everything. Questions came like arrows….

Mr. Terry your wife Ms. Bruna is the prime suspect in Jeffrey’s murder. So where is she now? Is she afraid of coming out to the open world for the fear of getting arrested?

Bruna was arrested by Mr. Parkinson today morning at 9.30am in my residence. She has accepted that she committed the murder. The world will soon know for what she committed the murder for!!

So where Bruna was all these days and why was she hiding??

Bruna’s life was in danger. Contrary to the popular belief, Miller and his wife did not die in a car accident. It was all pre planned. The murderer wanted the entire family of Miller’s to die, but God had other plans. Soon you will know the details of that culprit. So Bruna had to keep herself safe from the eagles clutches…..

The questions continued and one hour had passed. Parkinson interrupted and told that he would update them soon and escorted Terry to his cabin.
“We have won the first battle against Gregory. Now we don’t have any evidence that it was Gregory who did all these. How are we supposed to prove??” Terry questioned.

Park and the two officers were silent. Suddenly Terry felt that something was wrong.

“Where is Steffi??” He asked.

They looked around, but no sign of her. The two officers ran outside immediately and started searching the floor. They did not find her. They came to know in a few seconds that even Gregory was missing. Suddenly there was a gun shot. It came from the direction of the elevator. The officers rushed near the elevator. Steffi was bleeding. Blood was dripping from her hand staining her white shirt. She was in pain. She was crying for help. She was clutching a CD pouch in her hand. Parkinson and the two officers rushed to her assistance. They took control of the two men who were behind Steffi. The game was over!!!

Everyone rose when Judge Jonathan entered the court. He settled in his seat and signaled for the case to start.

“Your honour, Mr. Gregory Thomas has been accused of committing the murder of Mr. John miller and Susan Miller. He has also been accused of kidnapping their daughter Ms. Bruna Isaac and also Mr. Terry Isaac. He had done all this to become the president of the Glasson Company. I would now request Mr. Parkinson, the chief investigating officer in this case to come to the stand.

“Mr. Parkinson, would you please share the details that you know about this case to the court”

“Yes sir, it’s my pleasure. Mr. Gregory Thomas held around 42% of shares in Glasson Company. Initially he was holding only 30% of shares but in a span of 2years he attained 42% shares. His main aim was to take over the Glasson Company. Therefore one day he requested Mr. John Miller, that he would like to take over the company as Ms. Bruna was too young. Mr. Miller did not approve this idea. The evidence for this conversation has been submitted to you in CD. So Mr. Gregory Thomas decided to kill Mrs. And Mr. Miller. He also sent two people to kidnap Terry Isaac and Bruna, because Bruna was the heir to the shares after their parents’ death. In an attempt to escape from the kidnapper Ms. Bruna Isaac killed Jeffrey with a knife. In the ensuing struggle Ms. Bruna got hurt and she lost her conscious and when she woke up she did not recognize herself. She was picked up by a truck driver who was appointed by Mr. Gregory. He had also appointed an old lady to make sure Bruna was under his custody. But Ms. Bruna was determined to move ahead and find out the culprit. Therefore she left the place and Mr. Gregory lost his control. Ms. Bruna contacted me for help. I kept her under my custody because bringing her out to the open world would be harmful for her life. With the help of Ms. Bruna we found out Terry Isaac and then they both married to prevent Mr. Gregory from taking up the post. The details of the shares and also the report of witnesses have been submitted to you, your honour”
Parkinson went on to explain what had happened in the Company and how he got hold of the CD and about Steffi. When he completed Gregory’s face was almost pale. He was sweating profusely. He had no other option other than accepting his mistake. He walked slowly towards the stand and stood silently.

Mr. Gregory Thomas, are you ready to accept the charges that are filed against you?
“Yes….”

Now all the eyes were on Judge Jonathan, who was about to deliver the judgement.

“As Mr. Gregory Thomas committed the crime of killing Ms. and Mr. Miller the court orders him to serve two life imprisonment one each, for his two victims. The court also orders him to pay a penalty of $1,oooooo to Ms. Bruna Isaac for the physical and mental torture inflicted on her. Though Ms. Bruna Isaac has committed the murder, the court thoroughly understands that the murder was committed on grounds of self defense. Thereby I vindicate her of the crime with a fine of $50,000 which shall go to the Saint Abbey memorial trust for orphans. SO BE IT!!

I was standing in my father’s office. This place belonged to me. I sat in his chair and closed my eyes.
The grass was green; lush green. The sky was white like snow. I was standing alone. I was walking barefoot. The grass felt soft under my feet. I saw him. He welcomed me. This time I recognized him. I ran to him and hugged him.
“Father I won the battle”
“I am proud of you my child. I knew you would win. But this is just the beginning of a long journey. You have lot more battles to fight!! But this time I can’t lead you. You will be on your own child!!”
And he left my hand and walked away.

I woke up!! Tears were running down my cheeks. I walked over to the balcony. It started raining!! I looked over to the clouds and whispered……

“Let your soul rest in peace”

Journey continues…!!

The Oblivion!!!-Part Two

I met Parkinson after the funeral and told him the details. We both came up with the idea of contacting my dad‘s personal secretary. It was 1pm in the afternoon when we dialed Steffi’s number. Parkinson asked the details of Jeff Parker. Steffi was glad to help us. She gave the required details. We came to know that Jeff was working under Mr. Gregory Thomas, one of the directors in the board. More confusion!!!
"What was Gregory’s motive?” I just turned and stared at Parkinson
He just replied “we will know soon!!” It was time for us to find out the history of Mr. Gregory Thomas!!

It was five in the evening when we reached my dad’s office. Parkinson had called Steffi and informed her that we would be coming there. She had made sure that no one was working at that time. We used the personnel elevator and reached my dad’s office. I was greeted by the fresh fragrance of flowers. On my dad’s desk was a family photo. I was smiling and was looking happy in it. I had no time for sentiments and started searching the files for share details of the company. My mom and dad were holding 51% of shares as they were the directors. Next in line was Mr. Gregory Thomas holding 42% of company shares. According to the records Gregory held only 30% of shares and that was 2 years back. In a span of two years he had bought our company shares from other directors and attained 42%. Now his motive was absolutely clear. It was a run for the director’s post of the Glasson Company!! After my parents death the shares would get transferred to my name. If I get married to Terry I can legally transfer all my shares to him. Everything became clear. Parkinson yelled, “Damn we have to find out Terry Isaac soon!! I looked directly into his eyes and asked “HOW??” Parkinson was pacing furiously in the office.

"Bruna, Jeff was not alone that night. He had come with one of his friends who should have kidnapped Terry. Now we need to find him"

He made a few calls and got the details of the second person. His name was Danny and he resided in 238th street, Bronx. It was a long drive.

Gregory Thomas was feeling irritated. “You fools; I shouldn’t have trusted you in the first place. You guys can’t keep track of a girl!! Now I need to know where Bruna is and what she is up to!! Keep trying and don’t report me until you find her out!”’ He slammed his phone down. Alec his lawyer was sitting in the couch and was having a drink.

"Relax Gregory we have the situation under control. I don’t think she can find out her sweet heart so soon"
Greg managed a sly smile.
"What’s your suggestion Alec? What if Bruna claims for the director’s post?? We need to act soon. She is capable of anything. I don’t want to underestimate that girl"

Alec stared into his wine glass for a while and then spoke slowly but confidently, “Greg tomorrow you are going to speak to the press. Tell them that you are going to take over Glasson Company as the director on Monday morning if Bruna Miller does not turn up because you have 42% of shares and you have the rights too!! I am sure she will not turn up because the police will arrest her for the murder and we need not worry about Terry as he is under our custody”
Both men laughed out loud and toasted “Long live the future director of the Glasson Company!!!”

On238th Street, Danny was coming out of his home. Parkinson had parked the car in the opposite shop and we were waiting for Danny to come out. It was 7pm when he came out of his home. He started his car. We started following him. He went straight to a bar named Jc Mac. We followed him inside. We sat in the table next to him. I was facing my back to him. I did not want him to recognize me. He was waiting for one his friends and when he arrived he ordered drinks. I was listening intently to their conversation as I thought it would be helpful to find Terry. When the other guy mentioned about Terry’s name, Danny quickly took him out to the backyard. It was time for us to move too. We followed them to the backyard. Both of them were involved in a deep conversation when Parkinson hit Danny. Since they did not expect the blow it took them seconds to recover. Within seconds Parkinson took the control of them. They tried running, but Park showed his revolver. Park again hit Danny on his face. His nose started bleeding. He did not understand who this man with the revolver was, until he saw me!! He gasped.

Where is Terry?? Where have you kept him??

Park hit them once again. Danny refused to open up and Park shot the other guy on his leg. He started yelling in pain. I could see terror and agony in Danny’s eyes!! He replied slowly that he had locked Terry in his farmhouse which is about 7km from this club. Park shoved the revolver in my hands and took both men and tied them in the back of our car. We started to the farm house. It took us twenty minutes to reach the place. It was dark. We took Danny along with us as the other guy was bleeding badly. We locked the car. Park pushed Danny forward and asked him to open the door and take us to Terry. Danny fumbled with the keys and opened the door and went straight to room upstairs and opened the door. Terry was lying unconscious. I fell down beside him and tried waking him up. He opened his eyes slowly and looked up at me. He hugged me and I felt warm. We cried. Suddenly there was a loud crash and Park fell down and hit his head. The other guy had escaped from the car and had a revolver in his hand. He caught my hair and slapped me hard. I was in pain. I did not want to lose Terry again. With all my strength I pushed the other guy. He tumbled and fell near the entrance. Park regained his balance and shot towards the other guy. He flew and fell near the banister. Danny tried escaping. Terry quickly caught him by his leg and he fell down. Park kicked him on his face and he fell unconscious. The other guy was dead. Park did not want to kill Danny before he got all the details we wanted. Park made a call to his office and requested an ambulance. It arrived within ten minutes. Terry and I stayed in the room upstairs with Danny who was in an unconscious state. I told Terry what had happened and how me and Park had found him. I am proud of you Bruna, Terry whispered in my ears. I embraced him.

Parkinson made sure that there was no one in the farm house other than us four and he came up to the room. We tied Danny’s hands and locked him in the back of our car and all of us left to Parkinson’s guest house. We locked Danny in the basement. All of us were tired and therefore we slept without any discussions. It was 9am when we all woke up. Park went down to check on Danny. When he came up he confirmed that the person we had to fight against was Gregory Thomas. I was submerged in my own thoughts when the news hit me like a bomb. I was shocked. Gregory was giving a live interview in CNN!!

“For the past 25 years Glasson Company has provided the best galvanizing solutions around the world. It will continue its works in the following years too. Mr. Miller was a strong and an able leader. None of us can replace him, but this Company urgently requires a person to take important decisions. Therefore since I hold 42% of this company shares I take the responsibility of running this Company as the next president. There will be an official event at eleven tomorrow where I would take up the post. The company would still be waiting for Ms. Bruna Miller till tomorrow morning as she is the natural heir of this Company. I promise to do justice to my job……………”

He had planned everything. He knew I would not come because the cops would arrest me for Jeff’s murder. Parkinson and Terry were staring at me. All three of us were speechless.
“Bruna we have to do something fast, time is too short, we have to stop him”
My heart was pumping hard, adrenaline was gushing!! I somehow had to stop Gregory from taking the post!! But how??? I would be caught for Jeffrey’s murder even before I reach the Company. I looked at Terry; he was busy thinking what to do. I stood up and went near him; I kneeled in front of him ….

"Mr. Terry Isaac do you mind marrying Ms. Bruna Miller and that too today???"

The Oblivion!!! Part one

The sky was white. It had black stars. It was real I could see it. I saw colours that I couldn’t see!! What a pity! It was a dream!!
I was walking in the desert. It was hot. The sand pricked my feet. I did not stop. I was thirsty. No water. I was searching for something!!
I did not know what!! The sun became red, searing red, painful red.
OH GOD!!
My heart ached; I saw white light inside my head. I struggled. I heard thunder. Everything was spinning. I was standing on a black star. It was cold enough to freeze me. But I did not freeze!! I was looking at empty space. It was empty all over me. I was empty.
I WOKE UP!!
I wiped my eyes to see where I was. It was pitch black. I waited for my eyes to get adjusted to the darkness. It was cold. I knew I was not in my home. Home!! Did I have one?? I tried to remember what had happened. Nothing came to my head. I tried remembering my name. I had forgotten that too. I was a living vegetable!!! I felt that I had something in my hand, and I bought it near to take a close look. I was shocked. It was a knife. Its blade was glistening in the pale moonlight. Blood was dripping from it. Tears rolled down my cheeks. It was hot. Where was I?? I scanned the place around. It was full of trees swaying to the wind. It was a forest. The only source of light was the moon. Had I killed someone?? Why was I here??? My mind was full of questions!! Questions, for which I had no answer. I stood up. My legs were shaky. I was feeling hungry. I walked two steps forward only to stumble and fall down again. I gathered my balance and realized quickly that it was not a stone. It was a something else. I put my hand on it. It was cold. I got the strong smell of iron. It was blood. I shuddered. I had killed someone. Yes, killed brutally. But why?? I tried turning the corpse to catch a glimpse of the persons face. I tried remembering who he was and why I had killed him and why I was here at this hour?? Again, my mind was blank. I had to get out from there somehow. I put the knife away and I started walking in an unknown direction. My clothes were soiled with blood. I had to change. I did not want the cops to arrest me, until I knew who I was!! I was scared. I started crying. It would be strange if I ask somebody whether they knew me. They would laugh on my face. I stopped walking. I had to do something soon. Mere sobbing was not going to help me in any way. I took a deep breath. I decided that I needed new clothes and some food. I saw my watch. It was 11.30pm. I started walking.
I was walking for almost two hours, when I caught the glimpse of the road. I was happy. I ran with all my energy. I was on the road, thinking what to do next. I was in the highway. I saw lights coming from a house on the opposite side of the road. I walked towards it. At least I had some luck. I saw clothes hanging outside in the garden. The gate was small; I would be able to climb easily. But I was wondering whether the owner had a pet dog. I did not know whether god existed at that moment, but I whispered a prayer and climbed the gate. My feet touched the grass. I kept myself near the walls, and walked slowly. I reached the backyard. I selected a jean and a t shirt. The shirt was loose. But I had no complaints. I washed my face and changed my clothes. Then I went back the same way I entered. I was standing on the highway, thinking what to do next. A car sped past me. Next I saw a huge truck coming towards me. I waved my hand, it slowed down. The driver was an old man. I told him that I wanted a lift to the city. He did not know what a girl was doing in the highway at this hour. He told me to get inside. I sat beside him.
He asked me where I wanted to go. I gave the answer as city. The old man looked at me and gave a confused look. I managed a smile, because I did not know where I was and did not know whether a city existed after the highway. He told that the truck would stop in Abbey road to unload goods and he told me that it’s in New York City. I nodded my head as though I knew the place very well. I told him that I will get down there. He told me that he will reach the city at the break of the dawn. The rest of the journey went in silence. I slept!!
I woke up to find the first rays of the sun. I thanked the old man for his lift. I got down and started walking down the road.
The old man made sure that the girl was out of sight and then pulled a mobile out of his pocket and told “The girl reached the city, she is walking down Abbey road” and cut the call.
It was 6am. I saw a newspaper truck unloading the papers. I wanted one badly. May be there was some information about me. There was only one person who was unloading. So I went and offered a helping hand. The man was glad to accept. I helped him unload. After we completed I asked him whether he could just lend me one newspaper. He smiled and handed me a five dollar bill and gave me a newspaper too. I walked a little further and settled in a chair. I opened the newspaper and gave a quick glance. In the second page, there was news which interested me. The headlines read, “Millionaire John Miller and his wife die in a car accident”. I read further ……
“John Miller the owner of Glasson Company died in a car accident along with his wife Susan Miller. Their daughter Bruna Miller is reported to have left home yesterday evening with her fiancée Terry Isaac and there is no clue as of now where she is. The police are investigating the whereabouts of the family friend. The police also suspect a hand of murder on the Miller family. The reasons are not yet known.”
At the left hand side, below the article Miller’s family photo was there. I looked at the lean girl who was standing between the Millers. Is it me?? I walked slowly towards the blue sedan which was parked on my right, and saw my reflection on the tinted glass. It was the same face without a doubt!!!
How was I supposed to react??? Feel sad and start crying? Coz my parents had died!!! Feel petrified because I was all alone??? I didn’t know!!! There was totally no emotion in me. I felt void; I felt as though I did not belong to that place, I felt really far away from the real world!! Everything became a blur!!
I was running downhill with the cops behind me. I was searching for air. I was soaked in sweat. I saw them chasing me. I was still running. My feet took me wherever my soul could hide. I fell down from the mountain. Too high!!! It was dark. I was falling still. I knew my bones were going to crack in seconds. I imagined my skull breaking………. But instead I was on cold stand!! I was having a sunflower on my long brown hair. It was dancing like waves to the breeze. I was wearing a black dress which was flowing on the ground. The moon was so big. The stars were not there. I was walking. I saw him. He welcomed me. He was sitting in a calm and composed posture. How did I come here? I asked him. I got you, he replied calmly. I saw roses and sunflowers around me. I was feeling happy. He called me, and I turned towards him. He said “destruction is for goodness, not for everybody but to you!!” I did not understand. He pecked his hands on my cheeks and told, “You will understand, there is a long way to go!! This end will be your beginning!!”
I heard voices. I opened my eyes. I was surrounded by people. I had fainted!!! I stood up slowly. An old lady helped me up. She even offered me to take me home. I denied. She asked me to come home with her as it was near. I considered the idea and walked along with her. Her home was at the end of the alley. It was small and beautiful. She took me inside and offered me cookies, bread and milk. I hogged them like a wild boar…. “Who are you child, what were you doing near the car??” Her question made me speechless. I was in tears. I did not know what to answer. I told her that I had no one and my parents had died. She looked straight in my eyes and told me that if I wanted I can stay there, till I find a job for myself. I thanked her and told her I will be all right and thanked her for her food. It was time for me to leave. I thanked her again and left.
When the girl was out of sight, the old lady took her phone and told “the girl did not stay here, she left!!”
I was standing on the road now. I had to find out Terry Isaac. I prayed to god that he should not be the person who I had killed!! An idea clashed my mind. My dad is the owner of a multi million dollar company. So, all its developments would have been covered by the press. Therefore all I had to do was to check out the newspaper archives. So I asked a person on the road where was the library, and noted the directions and started my journey towards the library. I had a long day ahead of me.
I entered the library and reached the newspaper sections. I asked the librarian about articles on Glasson Company and Millers family. She just browsed thorough her database and returned with two huge folders. I grabbed the first one and started scanning for important details quickly. Within an hour I knew the details of the company and its shares. Then I got what I wanted. There was a picture in which I was holding the hand of a young and a handsome lad. I read the description. It said “Bruna Miller and her fiancée Terry Isaac sharing a light moment with their parents during their engagement”. I smiled and felt happy for the first time. Terry was alive. I had to find him out fast. I took a Xerox of the article and tucked the paper into my jeans pocket. Now once again I was standing on the road, thinking about my next move. I checked my watch, it was 4pm. Suddenly a thought struck me. I ran to the nearby newspaper shop and bought the evening newspaper. The front page had the news which I wanted. It read
“Man found murdered on Interstate 81. The person has been identified as Jeff parker aged 24. According to the NYPD investigation Jeff parker had last been seen in club volatile on Thursday night. According to sources, he had left along with Terry Isaac and Bruna Miller who the NYPD is already searching for. The mystery on Miller’s family case is deepening each day.
Jeff parker’s body has been handed over to his parents. The source used for murder has been identified as garden knife. Jeff parker’s funeral will take place on Saturday morning at 11am in St’Bartholomew’s church. Mr. Parkinson, senior detective of NYPD has been pressed in for investigating the case. The public are requested to call Mr. Parkinson if they see Terry Isaac or Bruna miller as it would be very useful for the further progress of the case”
Now I needed something to hide my face from the public!! I quickly made a note of the detective’s number. I had an intuition that I knew Parkinson. So I decided to call him. I took the five dollar bill which the man gave today morning and got it changed. I dialed Parkinson’s number. He picked up in the third ring. His voice was warm. Without beating around the bush I told him directly that I was Bruna Miller. There was silence on the other end. Suddenly there was a burst of emotion in his voice. He asked “Bruna where the hell are you, are you safe, why didn’t you contact me earlier? Your parents passed away in an accident? Did you read the newspaper? Where are you?” I was silent and then asked him “Parkinson, do you know me?” because I did not get a better question!! “Have you gone mad Bruna, what’s wrong with you? Your dad had helped me so much in my life. How the hell will I forget you and your parents?” I was in tears now. “Parkinson you need to believe me, please listen to what I have got to say…………” and I told him what had happened from yesterday night. I was crying and shaking completely. I was content. At last I had someone who I knew, who would help me!! Parkinson advised me to come to his office immediately. But I refused and told him that until I find the person behind all this I will not come out to the open world. He agreed and promised to help me. I told him what I had planned next. He agreed and also told me that he would arrange for money. I kept the phone and came out. For the first time in all these hours I was feeling secured. It was 7.30pm when I met Parkinson. We met near Qwicky’s café. We discussed about next day plans. We ordered our foods and ate and he gave me money for my survival. I embraced him before we parted. You will be all right Bruna, Parkinson told.
I stayed in Parkinson’s guest house for the night. I woke up at 8am. I had a quick breakfast and left to Wesley’s church. It was 10.30am when I reached there. Jeff’s father was standing in a corner. I went up to him. I was wearing a scarf on my head to keep myself under cover. His father’s eyes were red. I went and stood near him and whispered “Sorry for what has taken place. He is too young”. His father gave me a sad glance and told me that it was his fate. I was asking questions in all possible ways to get the details of Jeff’s work place. At last I made a breakthrough. I got shocked when I came to know that Jeff was working in my dad’s company!! Now the question was who he was working for inside the company. The game was getting tougher every minute!!
